Today has been pretty wild, as the OpenAI saga just kept getting crazier. It sounds like things will still be pretty up in the air for a while regarding the longterm impact on the field, but in the short term it seems like it probably makes sense to continue on the path I'm planning with learning to use the OpenAI API. It's still the current cutting edge in terms of LLMs, and a team at at least one of the companies with claim to the project will work hard to keep the customer base they've built. It does seem wise though to reconsider the secondary role I was going to give other options in my current studies. It seems like having at least some sense of how to work with similar options will be a good thing to stay current on until there's a bit more clarity about the longterm of OpenAI. Apparently, through their existing partnership, Microsoft has already had an identical version of the API up and running through their services, but it is somewhat harder to get access to as a developer, and requires a fairly in depth application be submitted to Microsoft. I took a quick look through the application to see about getting the process started, but it looks like I have a few things I need to get setup first. To that end - I plan on focusing a bit more on this as a website tomorrow, so hopefully there will be some changes to the structure of this coming soon.
